Men of the Ivy Spotlight: Dr. Limone C. Collins

As the COVID-19 pandemic appears to be slowing down across the country, our June Man of the Ivy is still working hard in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area to encourage residents, particularly those of African descent, to get the vaccination. Dr. Limone Collins or LC to his friends (including Charities) is Chief of the Vaccine Safety & Evaluation Section of the Immunization Healthcare Division (IHD) of the Defense Health Agency (DHA). He is board certified in Pediatrics with 26 years of active-duty experience as an officer in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. Dr. Collins is a recognized expert clinical consultant in allergic and immunologic diseases and drug/vaccine adverse reaction diagnoses and management. He serves on the Clinical Immunization Safety Assessment/Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CISA/CDC) committee as a representative for the Department of Defense (DoD) and on the CDC Immunization Safety Task Force Working Group. He is a former classmate of Dr. Deborah Brix, who previously served as the White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator.

Dr. Collins continues his support of military medicine as a civilian physician and joined the legacy Vaccine Healthcare Centers Network in 2002, which transitioned, along with the Military Vaccine Agency, to the newly formed IHD in 2014. Dr. Collins has actively contributed to the development of clinical guidelines for the management and safety surveillance of immune responses and vaccine associated side effects. His research interests include gender differences in immune responses and vaccine-associated adverse events.

LC became a Man of the Ivy in 2012 as a Bronze member ($500) and rose to the Silver Level ($1000) during Ivy Community Charities' 30th anniversary celebration in 2016. Together with his wife, Sharon Anderson Collins, the Collins-Anderson Families provided a $3500 scholarship this month to a 2021 graduating Prince George's County high school senior through Ivy Community Charities' Scholarship Reach Back Campaign.
