Fundraising Events and Capital Campaign

Charities holds three major fundraising events each year.  Our first event for 2008 was the Scholarship Luncheon and Fashion Show.  This event is held each year on the third Sunday of May. In previous years, the venue has been Martin's Crosswinds in Greenbelt, MD.  More than 1000 members and guests along with scholarship recipients attend the annual event.  The fashions keep our guests coming back each year.  The funds raised through the luncheon and fashion show are used in part to support our cultural, academic and health-related activities including the scholarships that are recognized at the event. Our goal is to raise at least $15,000 annually through this event.

The second event for 2008 was the Annual Golf Tournament.  In our second year, we increased the number of golfers participating in the fundraiser by 25% with over 70 golfers teeing off.  Each year we have chosen an award-winning venue and were thrilled to use a course in 2008 located in Prince George's County. Our goal is to raise at least $15,000 annually through this event.

The third event for 2008 will be the 5k Walk for the Health of It at the Watkins Regional Park in Largo/Upper Marlboro, MD.  Each year the walk attracts over 200 runners and walkers from across the region who complete the 3.5 mile course. Our goal is to raise at least $20,000 annually to support our health, educational and family service activities.

In addition to these fundraisers to support our programs, we are also engaged in a strategic capital campaign to acquire and manage our own Ivy Youth and Family Center in Prince George's County.  Member contributions along with governmental support have helped us to meet the first phase of our building effort. We are eagerly seeking funds from corporate sponsors, businesses and philanthropists to help us establish this important center that we are designing to serve the citizens of Prince George's County.

Monetary contributions are appreciated from all sources.  You may send your contribution through Pay Pal or to the following address:

Capital Campaign

We concluded our 2007 Every Soror’s Pocketchange campaign in December, however, members continued to make contributions in recognition of the birthday month challenge. A total of $16,289.59 was collected last year based on the contributions of less than 100 members. Special thank you to all of the members who contributed – your names are recorded in the 2007 Annual Report.

We are pleased to announce that the birthday month winners are members whose birthdays are in June. We thank you for your contribution totaling nearly $5,000.

If the organization is serious about acquiring a building, we must engage in an aggressive capital campaign to meet the matching commitment set for our two bonds. Both the State and County have committed $500,000 to our building effort but we will need to provide evidence that the membership of Charities is financially committed as well. We need every member to make her pledge to the capital campaign in 2008. We estimate that less than half of the members will attend the Boule. For those who will not attend the Boule, we hope that you will consider a generous contribution to the capital campaign as a loving, tax-deductible alternative.
