PURPOSE

The purpose of The Ivy Community Charities of Prince George’s County Maryland, Inc. (Charities) is to support the educational charitable, cultural and general welfare of economically and socially disadvantaged residents of Prince George’s County.

Charities engages in activities including, but not limited to, the following:

1. Awarding scholarships to enable qualified students with insufficient resources to advance their education.
2. Granting awards to educational and social service institutions to benefit the public welfare.
3. Supporting the Iota Gamma Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in implementing its national Program targets in the local community.
4. Developing and implementing human service projects to enhance education, health, the family, leadership development and cultural enrichment.

 

ORGANIZATION

The Ivy Community Charities of Prince George’s County, Inc., a non-profit corporation, was incorporated in the State of Maryland on December 29, 1986. The corporation was established as the tax-deductible arm of the Iota Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Charities is managed by a Board of Directors. According to the organization’s Bylaws, not more that 25 individuals--all of whom are members of Iota Gamma Omega--constitute the Board. The Board exercises all corporate powers and performs all lawful acts required of and permitted to the Board of Directors of a non-profit corporation.
